1 John - my translation

Here's my translation of excerpts from the Letter of First John, arranged as a responsive affirmation of faith.

We proclaim what we have seen and heard, so that you too may share in our fellowship — the fellowship with God the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
If we walk in the light — as he is in the light — then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Whoever claims to abide in Jesus ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
We abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his second coming.

The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
No one reborn of God makes a practice of sinning. He cannot keep on sinning, because he has been reborn of God.

By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil:
Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God.

The love of God was made manifest among us by God sending his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
In this is love: not that we have loved God but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the personal atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
We have come to know and trust the love that God has for us. We love because he first loved us.

If anyone says, “I love God,” and yet hates a fellow Christian, that person is a liar; for the one who does not love a fellow Christian whom can be seen, cannot love God whom is not seen.
We have this commandment from him: Whoever loves God must also love a fellow Christian.

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah has been reborn of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been reborn of him.
Everyone who has been reborn of God finds his commandments are not burdensome, and has victory over the fallen world.
