Rest, Drink, Eat — a new hymn

Here are three simple verses in 8.8.8.8, drawing from John 4.1-45, inspired by “I heard the voice of Jesus say” by Horatius Bonar 1846. I would set this to Waltham (“I heard the bells on Christmas day”) by John Baptiste Calkin 1872.

I heard the voice of Jesus say
Come, rest, lay down your heavy load
I came to him just as I was
And found in him my resting place

I heard the voice of Jesus say
Come, drink, restore your weary soul
I came to him just as I was
And I will never thirst again

I heard the voice of Jesus say
Come, eat, fill up your hungry heart
I came to him just as I was
And I will never want again
